Polestar TD-SW12 12” Active Subwoofer
The Polestar TD-SW12 is a serious piece of equipment. When I received this unit I had some real issues moving it and I had to ask a colleague for help. According to the label on the carton, the TD-SW12 weighs in at an impressive 42.8 kilograms and it is definitely recommended that moving this unit is a two person operation.
The direction indicated by the arrow on the carton is the front side of the subwoofer where the driver component is housed. There are perforated hand holds on either side of carton that you can use when trying to move this heavy piece.

The inner doubled layered carton is protected by an outer travel carton and the cabinet itself is wrapped in a transparent PO bag and a fine fiber non-woven bag.
The accessory box contains the speaker spikes and the power cord with the manual can be found next to the speaker.
Included as well is a pair of white cotton gloves along with a square of fine cloth. It is very easy to leave finger prints or scratch the piano finish of the subwoofer so material of the type included should be used when handling the subwoofer.

After all the packing is removed we are greeted by the dazzling piano finish of the cabinet.
The clean edges of the cabinet implies the highest craftsmanship and the minimalist aluminum CNC badge proudly displays the Polestar Logo and product identifier.

The speaker spike set found in the accessory box is composed of several elements and when assembled, locks together for maximum shock absorption. The pads that pair with the spikes are large for easier alignment with their companion piece during installation.

The woofer has an aluminum basin frame that is casted in one piece. The woofer cone is made of a three layer sandwich of materials. Overall the component is very rigid and with the internal damping the component suffers little distortion with an excellent breakup point.

The cabinet has a black piano finish, internal reinforced matrix and a panel thickness of 44mm. The cabinet is very sturdy and works in concert with the other pieces to aid the performance of the subwoofer as a whole.
